XGIMI remote not working? Try these in order
XGIMI remotes talk to the projector over Bluetooth, not infrared. That's why pointing it more carefully rarely helps, and why the usual fix is re-pairing. Go through these steps in order.
1. Batteries
Put in fresh batteries (most XGIMI remotes take two AAA). If the light on the remote doesn't blink when you press a button, it's almost always the batteries. Some people find it helps to leave the batteries out for a minute before putting new ones in.
2. Re-pair the remote
A remote can lose its pairing after a battery change or a software update. XGIMI's own instructions for most models (Horizon, Aura, Elfin, MoGo):
- Turn the projector on and wait for the home screen.
- Hold the remote within about 10 cm (4 in) of the projector.
- Press and hold Back and Home together until the light on the remote starts blinking.
- Wait for the pairing message on screen.
Older models (H1, H2, Z series) may use a different button combination, so check your manual if this doesn't work. On Google TV models a pairing prompt may appear on screen; follow it. On Android TV models you can also pair from Settings → Remotes & Accessories. Source: XGIMI's re-pairing guide.
3. Restart the projector
Unplug the projector for a minute, plug it back in and try pairing again. Portable models like MoGo should be charged and not in battery-saving mode.
4. Control it from your phone in the meantime
You can't re-pair a remote without getting into the projector's menus, which is a bit of a catch-22. A phone remote gets you out of it:
- Google TV / Android TV models: Google's remote works. Add the "Google TV remote" tile to quick settings on Android.
- China-market GMUI models (and Google TV models, in beta): Beamote controls the projector over Wi-Fi, free for the first 7 days.
- Any Android-based model: a USB mouse or keyboard plugged into the projector usually works for basic navigation.
The projector has to be on and on the same Wi-Fi for a phone remote to work. Use the power button on the projector to turn it on.
5. Still dead?
If a remote with fresh batteries never blinks, it's probably broken. Contact XGIMI support for a replacement made for your model. Generic "XGIMI" remotes that don't list your exact model often don't pair.
