Lost or broken XGIMI remote? 4 ways to control your projector

Updated 2026-10-19 · by the Beamote team

XGIMI projectors ship with a Bluetooth remote, not an infrared one, so "universal IR remote" apps on your phone usually can't drive them. Here's what does work, and which option suits which model.

First, find out which system your projector runs. China-market models run GMUI (Chinese home screen). Most global models since ~2020 run Android TV or Google TV (Google home screen, "Google Assistant" on the remote). A few recent models run XGIMI OS.

1. Your phone, over Wi-Fi

The quickest fix, as long as the projector is switched on and on the same Wi-Fi as your phone.

  • Android TV / Google TV models: Google's own remote works. On Android, add the "Google TV remote" tile to Quick Settings, or use the Google TV / Google Home app. You pair once with a code shown on screen.
  • China-market GMUI models: Google's remote can't see these, and XGIMI's Chinese companion app isn't on Google Play. Beamote talks to GMUI's built-in network remote directly. This is what it was built for (tested on an RS 10 Ultra).
  • XGIMI OS models: no confirmed phone remote yet. If you have one, a diagnostics report from Beamote helps us add it.

Tip: a phone can't wake a projector from off over Wi-Fi, because standby closes the network. Beamote can send a Bluetooth power-on signal to supported models.

2. The buttons on the projector

Every XGIMI has a power button, and many have volume or touch keys on the body. That's enough to switch it on. Use your phone for the rest.

3. A USB or Bluetooth mouse or keyboard

XGIMI's Android-based systems generally accept a standard USB mouse or keyboard plugged into the projector's USB port: arrow keys and Enter navigate, Esc goes back. Fine as a stopgap, not great from the sofa.

4. A replacement Bluetooth remote

For the long term, buy the remote made for your model from XGIMI's official store or support. It has to be paired over Bluetooth once (the projector shows instructions when it can't find a remote). Avoid generic "XGIMI" remotes that don't name your exact model. Layout and pairing differ between generations. If it just stopped working, try re-pairing it first.
